Robot Damashii 00 Quanta & Eva 02 Released

Just a reminder: Gundam Unicorn OVA Episode 2 was released today for rental in both the Japanese and North American PSN stores. Just finished watching the episode myself ($5.99 rental from the NA store) and it was quite good. Check it out, if you can.

Preview Meddley: MG 00Q, STANDart 8 and FW Gundam Converge 2

Not too much news to be had lately in terms of new merch, but we are getting a slow trickle of publicity images for some of the cooler Gundam figures and kits slated for release this winter.

First off, the upcoming Master Grade 00 Quanta: I'm not too terribly fond of this design--particularly the legs and general lack of weaponry--but the MG looks very sleek, and very different. One of those kits ya' buy just because they're so much fun to build, ya' know?

Mobile Suit Gundam: Ecole du Ciel -- Resurrected at Last?

After a hiatus of sixty-five billion years, it looks as though Ecole du Ciel will finally resume publication in Gundam Ace.

You might better know Ecole du Ciel as, 'that one Gundam manga that is absurdly awesome.' Given the big names involved, it was, frankly, astonishing that we ever got more than a few chapters to begin with. At 11 volumes already (the first nine of which are available in English), I think it's safe to call this thing a miracle.

Drawn by Mikimoto Haruhiko (made famous by his work on Macross) and with mecha designs by Yoshinori Sayama (whom you may remember from Patlabor), Ecole du Ciel is one of those rare creations that no fan of the genre can afford to miss. It doesn't hurt that the writing is a fair bit stronger than is typical of the Gundam franchise. I, for one, am deliriously excited for more.

PG Strike Freedom: Publicity Images

Looks very nice, but... I don't know. Something about it just seems a bit off to me.

Upcoming Gundam Merch:

The main thing I'm excited for here is, of course, the RD Victory Gundam. Proportion-wise, it looks better than the Master Grade to me. Being a huge fan of Victory in general, I'll probably get the new V2, as well, though it seems to me like they couldn't have picked a worse angle for that picture...

Oh well. Now that we're on our second and third Victory figures, hopefully some of those wacky bug-eyed grunts won't be too far behind.

The Great Exodus

Perhaps I'm a bit late to the party, but I've recently discovered that Wikia is forcibly converting all of its hosted wikis to a simply atrocious new template. The current, very clear and easy-to-navigate template (Monaco) will be removed forever.

Having just established a Legend of Galactic Heroes wiki a few months ago, I am not exactly thrilled by this news. And neither are a great many other wikis, all of whom are currently stuck between a rock and a hard place: do they try to find a new host; do they try to make do with the terrible new template; do they simply abandon the wikis so much time and effort has been invested into?

S.H. FiguArt Kamen Rider Images

Two new figures, slated for release early next year. I'm not sure what they are, but they look cool.

1:1 Core Fighter Video

A nice video of the 1:1 FF-X7 Core Fighter, currently on display at the Shizuoka Hobby Fair. If you want to go see it there, you have till the end of March.

It may not be quite as impressive as the 1:1 Gundam, but it's still pretty awesome.

Gundam Musou 3: Deathscythe Confirmed

One more mobile suit confirmed for Gundam Musou 3--the Deathscythe Hell. Gundam Wing fans should be... happy, I guess? While it's awesome to the Deathscythe get some love in game, it is still a Musou game after all...........

In addition to the updated graphics and handful of new units, it looks like the developers have also spared no expense with regard to the enemies you will face: the same as in the past two installments, expect to be up against nothing but horde after horde of Zakus, Hizacks and Z'Goks.

Gundam Musou 3: New Screenshots

We've got some new screenshots for the upcoming Gundam Musou 3. Personally, I was pretty disgusted by the insane amount of tedium in the second game, so I'm not too terribly excited... but, at least graphically, this game is very impressive. This is the style of heavily-stylized, cel-shading that Gundam has been begging for ever since the PS3 first launched.

50th AJMS: Even More Images

Even more images!

I think I'm in love with the SD Ingram.

Anyway, many of these items were also covered in the previous two All Japan Model Show posts, but these pictures are, I think, of better quality--and there are certainly more of them. At the moment I'm torn on who I should link the pictures: should I upload them all to the blog, or simply link to the original Japanese blog (which is what I've done in this post, for example). If you have any strong feeling either way, post a comment here.

At the moment, I'm leaning toward the latter. It's both easier for me, and (theoretically) should give those Japanese sites traffic indicative of interest, which is always good.

50th AJMS: More Images

Even more images from the 50th All Japan Model Show. Of special note: HGUC GM Custom incoming. The PG Strike Freedom also looks very nice, but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone actually buying a Perfect Grade kit.

Anyway, the show will open to the public for two days starting on the 16th of October.

50th AJMS: Early Images

We've got some early images from the 50th All Japan Model Show for the moment. Lots of really cool stuff to look at--from some fantastic custom kits, to some upcoming gunpla kits, including some new Master Grade models that I don't think should surprise anyone.

48AM: Space Battleship Yamato Display Model

I've been aware of Space Battleship Yamato forever: I've always thought the ship design was really, really cool, but never really bothered to learn much more about it. Gotta say, though, this thing looks pretty awesome.

A.C.E. Portable Announced

Looks like we've got yet another A.C.E. game incoming, this time on the Playstation Portable, of all things. Ironically, it seems to have a far larger list of playable mecha and incorporated series' than the recently released PS3 game, Another Century's Episode R.

48AM: Banpresto Prize Figures Image Preview

Some nice new images of Banpresto prize items (small display figures) from the 48 A.M. show this time. Typically, I don't care much for anime character figures--it always feels like either the facial structure or body proportions aren't quite right--but these look pretty damn cool. Fujiko's pose is... quite nice, and Lupin's expression is perfect.

Tamashii Nation 2010: Even More New Images

Tons of awesome stuff to gape at, particularly some very stylish Robot Damashii MSV figures. The Meteor is particularly impressive. Some quick highlights:

-Victory Damashii figure will include V-Dash equipment
-F91 figures to be re-released w/ Special Coating versions
-Three different versions of the RX-78-2!
-GM Sniper getting a White Dingo version.

Sometimes, I really hate looking at Tamashii Nation stuff. It's all so beautiful, so wonderful, it can be blinding.

Enough talk--on to the pictures!

Mobile Suit Gundam To Get New Bilingual Re-Release

Earlier this morning at the New York Anime Festival, Bandai Entertainment announced that it will be releasing the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime series on DVD in North America, with both English subtitles and the English dub. The release will come in two parts, presumably of 21-22 episodes apiece. No word yet on whether or not Doan's Island will receive a dub.

Bandai Entertainment also announced its intention to release the theatrical film, Mobile Suit Gundam 00: A Wakening of the Trailblazer on DVD in North America, as well as (finally) bringing over the DVD versions of the Gundam Unicorn OVAs.

No release dates for these products have been announced, but personally, I'm still waiting to know when I can pre-order Turn A off Amazon.

Revoltech Jigen Daisuke Review Summary

Popular Japanese hobby blog, Hobby Stock, has reviewed a sample revoltech figure that I know a lot of us are really looking forward to--Jigen Daisuke. First come the images, and I'll summarize the content of the review at the bottom of the post.

Gundam Unicorn Newtype Magazine Interview Summary

In a recent interview with one of the Gundam Unicorn OVA producers, Kosugi Naohiro, hints that the OVA series might conclude the story with an ending different from that of Harutoshi Fukui's novels. We are also treated to a number of other interesting tidbits, summarized below.

-Episode 2 is "plenty more" than the previous episode.
-The Unicorn vs. Kshatriya and Sinanju battle took a lot of work, and many cuts.
-The Sinanju's design is very hard to animate because of all the details, but they've tried to find the perfect balance between simplifying the design and retaining the suit's distinctive design.
-The 'lowest' points of Episode 2 are better than the 'highest' points of Episode 1.
-It was difficult to visually depict the Sinanju's speed as three times that of a normal suit, Kosugi said, because he was already 'overwhelmed by the speed of the Geara Zulu.' To better illustrate the Sinanju's speed, they are incorporating some never-before-seen animation techniques. The Sinanju moves very fast, in a 'wild' manner. "In terms of visual quality," Kosugi said. "It should look much better than the PV version." (Which you can view here).
-The animation effect for the Beam Magnum is especially nice. You will be impressed when you see it. "I was certainly surprised."
-Both Daguza (and the captain of the Nahel Argama, Otto) will play a prominent roles in the story.
-Most of Episode 2 will focus on the Full Frontal. Is the masked man really Char Aznable?

-The identity of Full Frontal is unknown, but the staff are working with him as if he were really Char--half of which, Kosugi says, is the result of Ikeda Shuichi's voice. Kosugi wants the audience to ask themselves if Full Frontal is a fake Char, or if, surprisingly, he is authentic.
-The Full Frontal in the OVA is not the same as the Full Frontal from the novels.
-Full Frontal and Banagher are "arch rivals."
-Bright Noa will appear in OVA Episode 4.

In short, fans who have read the books should not expect the OVA story to follow exactly. What this means for the overall story remains to be seen. While some fans are already speculating that the Unicorn-as-God ending may be completely removed and reworked from the OVA, I have a feeling any changes to the plot will be relatively minor.

Tamashii Nation 2010: RD Sinanju Up Close

We've got some nice, up-close pictures of the upcoming Robot Damashii Sinanju. Personally, this is one figure I can't wait to get. (I've already got one pre-ordered at HLJ).

It's on sale next month (November 2010) with an MSRP of 5,250 Yen. It's a bit pricey for a Gundam figure, but considering that previous Damashii figures marketed at the same price were either nice and large or packed to the gills with accessories, I think it's safe to assume that the money will be well worth it.

On a side note, I'm finally starting to see just how similar the Sinanju and Unicorn are. The heads/faces are very similar. I'm not sure if I like having the 'bad guy' suit look so similar to the 'good guy' suit (at least so far as the heads are concerned) but beyond that, this looks like one sexy beast.

Images from Moeyo.

One final comment: I've got a number of reviews for RD figures--Shinkuro, Guren Mk.II, Reborns Gundam, Falke, M9, V2, Denan Zon, Strike Freedom, etc. that I'll begin posting sometime next week. (Life's been busy lately).

Tamashii Nation 2010 New Images

Today we have a whole host of new images from a recent Tamashii Nation event, courtesy of Moeyo. They're showing off quite a few new figures, many of which should please fans of the Robot Damashii Line a great deal.

Of particular interest to myself is the upcoming Robot Damashii Victory Gundam--which will come complete with the parts needed to turn it into one of the mass-production, V-Dash Gundam models. It also appears we will be getting a new release of the V2 Gundam, featuring a partial redesign (I don't recall the V2 ever having cheek protrusions in the anime...) and, ostensibly, lacking the Assault Buster equipment that came with the earlier release.
